Tineye reverse image search

I mentioned this site in a meeting yesterday, and I was surprised more people hadn’t heard of it.

Tineye is a reverse image search engine. Instead of typing in a keyword to find an image, you give it an image URL or upload an image. Tineye then finds matches for that image. It’s really useful for copyright protection, finding images without a watermark and also finding better quality images of an image you already have.

Example:

I have this image of homer simpson, and I want to find a better quality version.

Go to www.tineye.com, upload the image on the homepage (you can also put an image URL), and boom tineye finds similar images.

Tineye also has an API, which is being used by sites like digg, istockphoto and other image hosts and stock image libraries. Digg use it to prevent duplicate content.
