In the interests of trying to maintain some level of reality / fair and balanced reporting in the face of overwhelming iOS bias around here, I thought this was worth sharing. See below.
Following in the footsteps of overseas markets, Android sales in Australia for the first time have exceeded iPhone sales – and it’s by a factor of 15%.

We’re so much better off as developers in Aus only having to worry about developing for iPhone, so, we’re a little biased at the moment…
However, while Android handset sales are hitting a little spike in advance of the iPhone 5 launching, it doesn’t translate to a business argument that we should develop for Android as well. Here’s why;
Statements like “there are more Androids being sold than iPhones” doesn’t translate to the actual audience. For a lot of android users, they’ve just migrated from a voice/text phone to a smartphone and don’t have the evolved digital habits to browse on the web, use apps etc. I’m sure that there are more toasters being sold than iPhones too, but no one is viewing websites or apps on them yet.
6 months ago we said, give at least 6 months for Android to catch up on data usage. From the figures at the link below, i think we’re in for at least another 6…
