Google have released the results of a study into broadband internet performance around the world which is interesting in itself and has graphs so I’m happy.
But the more interesting thing is the Public Data Explorer itself. It’s another one of Google’s sparse-looking but extremely powerful tools allowing you to explore sets of publicly available data, but also to upload your own data and instantly get the power of Google’s visualisation tools to wander through your own infoscape.
You have to get your head around a new language though: DSPL and it’s limited to 50MB currently so unfortunately I can’t used it for the NSW government mashup project I was investigating – for which we have 2.5GB of XML to get working on an iPhone! But I get the feeling I’ll be returning here soon…
