Blogging for cash: The New Age of Blog Monetisation

A discussion around bloggers as publishers and the changes in the Australian blogosphere

The industry has seen some changes in how brands and agencies are engaging bloggers. This niche form of social media marketing is starting to catch and follow trends we’ve seen happen in overseas market. Advertisers are keen to understand how they can partner with these influential communities. Bloggers and online influencers are becoming authoritative news sources and publishers in their own right. As the market matures, will the policies and rules around working with bloggers also shift?

This event will look at the new ways that blogs are able to monetise past traditional advertising. We will also discuss the ethical concerns around disclosure law in Australia and where we are going next.

Our panel members are:

Daniel Kjellsson, FELLT.com

Daniel Kjellsson, is a cofounder of digital publisher Sydney Stockholm with the aim or reinventing traditional publishing. Their project, FELLT.com launched earlier this year with 8 popular Australian fashion bloggers. They redirected their individual blogs to become part of one destination – the website receives and average of 313,000 unique visitors and 2.2 million page views every month. Daniel has been working with digital media, commercial journalism and professional blogs for almost ten years. Prior to relocating to Australia, he worked as a business development editor in Sweden, responsible for bringing titles such as ELLE, ELLE Decoration as well as Scandinavian version of GQ and Grazia online.

Patty Huntington, frockwriter

Dubbed “the ultimate go-to for model-twitchers” by Australia’s largest youth and entertainment site, Fairfax’s thevine.com.au, and “the scandal sheet for fashion’s stitch-and-bitch crowd” by The Australian, Huntington became the first blogger to join the media network of US-based digital media e-commerce specialist Journalism Online, installing their Press+ metered paywall service that is used by international outlets such as The Independent and The Onion.
