This year get intimate with some of the biggest names from the digital industries through four world-class workshops. These intimate sessions will give you all the insider knowledge you need.
ARUP – Mapping People In Space
This workshop will provide an overview of location-based services and tracking systems and an introduction to mesh networking. These include RFID (radio frequency identification), NFC (near field communication) standards, wi-fi and bluetooth hacking as well as sniffing with Arduino. You will be creating a building-wide proximity sensing network with Synapse RF100 and Processing. There will be two components to the workshop, a theoretical session and a practical session.
Media Lab Melbourne – Openframeworks
This workshop will expose participants to the numerous ways in which Kinects can be controlled, using the openFrameworks C++ toolkit for creative coders. Topics such as point cloud manipulation, 3D filmmaking, skeleton and blob tracking will be covered.
Iloura – Pitch, Create, Animate
This special panel takes you behind the scenes of one of the most respected animation and design studios in Melbourne. Step inside the minds that that make up one of the premiere studios in Australia as they dissect their recent work. You’ll also get to watch a showreel of their best work. The panel will be followed by a Q&A session on VFX, design and the animation industry.
Hyper Island – The Transformative Force of Technology
This is a workshop about learning(s) from the Dinosaurs. We are at the very edge of the adaptive range of our industrial world and consequently we are a part of an old economy and system that is faltering. In this workshop you will crowdsource the belief systems of today and tomorrow in a fun and engaging way.
