Retail Investing in Themselves?

Globalization…ahh the easiest scape goat of our time! Investing in employees is not a new concept, treating them like commodities has never boded well for anyone but yet it all still seems like it comes as a surprise to people and business.

Retail seems to have the biggest difficulty juggling between competitive prices, cost reduction and staff benefits but if some can do it then why aren’t others…? Because the enphasis isn’t placed on upskilling and motivation. It’s seems like such a simple concept to fix for retailers, especially if it means an increase in profit in this difficult retail period and the booming online shopping habit. The question though, is thanks to this recession will behaviours change?

“You don’t have to be an economist to know that for the past generation, workers have gotten the short end of this particular stick. Corporate profits have gone steadily up, consumers have been offered an increasingly wide selection of affordable products, but wages for most of us have stagnated.”
