Google is proposing to replace JavaScript with its own language ‘Dart’ – something that will undoubtedly polarise the developer community as we argue over whether performance and features are more important than standards, compatibility and of course – control.
I’m keen to try it out at least as a JavaScript-generator in the same vein as the Closure and GWT. But until Google fully engages with the community and standards bodies, it still has to be perceived as a proprietary technology laden with all the cautionary tales of IE and VBScript (remember those days?!). This is a thorough analysis from Ars Technica: http://arstechnica.com/open-source/news/2011/09/critics-call-foul-as-google-t… Exciting times! Pip Ps. Why Dart?! Surely that’s going to confuse a whole load of advertisers!
