Steve Jobs Attacks Flash As Unfit for iPhone

I thought he had some good points. Particularly the following:

"Flash was created during the PC era—for PCs and mice," said Mr. Jobs in the note published Thursday. "The mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open Web standards—all areas where Flash falls short."

I tend to agree – Unless a completely new style of interactions were mapped into Flash, it just doesn’t make sense. It’s just like the early days of Windows Mobile (ala Windows shrunk).

OK, who wants to fight!

 1. Ok, I don’t think a fight is needed, I hope they can solve the issues like adults. Basically flash has become a bit of a beast. Something that initially wasn’t meant for programmers have turned into something very much so. Just adding things on top without scrapping the old. I remember Adobe where going to (maybe they even did) split everything up into one package for non programmers, where it would be more of an animation tools. And then there would be the other end with Flex MXML and Actionscript 3. But it’s all a mish mash at the moment. Flash is to well established, take EyeBlaster, YouTube etc. etc. to be killed off quickly by a new competitor. The web developing companies already have the Flash knowledge, and it’s no big issue learning the few language updates being introduced by each new version of Flash rather than learning a complete new language from scratch. Other web plugin based technologies such as Unity have to little support both from developers and users to stand a chance, even though it’s 3D is far better than what Flash can do. What I could see killing flash would be if a platform/language like C++/Objective C would become an option for web. At the moment those languages get a lot of new followers due to iPhone for example. The development knowledge is already within the agencies, the performance would be far superior to flash, but it would still require companies like EyeBlaster and YouTube to ease in the new technology in due to high demand.
