Facebook have admitted defeat in the location wars and are retiring Facebook Places.
Is it just me or does it feel like they didn’t really give it a proper chance? I’ve only just got used to the ‘new’ iPhone app with Places in the home screen and come to accept the little paper dart (or whatever it’s supposed to be?) popping up each time I use Facebook mobile. Behaviour and acceptance of privacy issues such as this takes time to sink in, especially for a dinosaur like me – and now they take it away just as I was coming round! Personally random u-turns like this just leaves me with the ever-strengthening feeling to avoid FB altogether and lively solely in the relative calm of Google+.

However with the latest round of changes to the Facebook Web UI it’s now a part of the Status Update process… where / who with / etc etc. From: Deepend [mailto:post=deepend.posterous.com@posterous.com] On Behalf Of DeependSent: Tuesday, 6 September 2011 11:58 AMTo: Brad ThomasSubject: [deepend] The end of Facebook places.
Is it really the end of it? They did just add in location tagging for every status updateFrom: Deepend [mailto:post=deepend.posterous.com@posterous.com] On Behalf Of DeependSent: Tuesday, 6 September 2011 11:58 AMTo: Jack BrownSubject: [deepend] The end of Facebook places.
