Free & Simple Budgetting at mint.com, is it Worth the Cost?

This service is not yet available in Australia but it’s a very interesting take on how to manage your personal finances. Among other things, the service makes it super easy to create and track budgets as it bases it off your spending history. The downside is you have to give mint.com your bank login details, which any bank worth their salt will tell you never to do. What they do is trawl your financial data and categorise your purchases to draw you up budgets and track your financial health. Although the service is free (to US and Canadian citizens) it comes at the code of mint.com holding the data on all your spending preferences. Bring on the targetted marketting!

What they have done really well though is provide a great user experience and turn a bunch of fairly inaccessbile data into something really usefull. If you’re not worried about big brother being able to track your purchases or hackers stealling your passwords, might be worth a look when and if it comes to our shores.
