Face.com launches free API

Facial recognition startup face.com yesterday launched a publicly available (and 100% free) developer community and open API. The software is able to scan through images and recognise faces. They launched a pair of public Facebook applications in 2009 that could scan through all public Facebook photos and identify you and your friends.

The new API will allow developers to create their own applications, using face.com to recognise people’s faces, and pull these images into your own applications.

A few examples have already been launched to highlight how easy it is to create these applications, check this one out: http://developers.face.com/examples/poster-yourself/
