Mobile technologies are playing a growing role in the management and monitoring of consumer health, and just in the last few months we’ve seen innovations launched to help diagnose infertilityHIVmelanoma andmalaria, to name just a few examples. The latest spotting? VitaDock, a free iPhone app that works with docking monitors to help users visualize and manage their overall health. The brainchild of German Medisana, the basic VitaDock app can be downloaded for free from Apple’s App Store, where versions are available in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch. Then, depending on the user’s needs, connecting modules can be purchased for monitoring blood sugar, blood pressure, body temperature and weight. Priced at EUR 99.99, for example, GlucoDock is a blood sugar monitor that plugs into the iPhone, iPod or iPad for quick and easy diabetes management. The EUR 79.99 ThermoDock module, meanwhile, offers contactless readings of body temperature. For EUR 129.99, CardioDock targets blood pressure, while the EUR 149.99 TargetScale connects with VitaDock to help users visualize and achieve personal weight targets. Health reports are generated every month, and data can be emailed to physicians or family members at any time. VitaDock can support up to four users on one device.

Of all the myriad applications of mobile technologies, health care is certainly among one of those with the greatest potential. How could your brand tap consumers’ phones to help them stay healthy and fit?
