So the week that was, was quite a week, with us designing, developing and producing a first draft of content for the new website that we’ll be running as the main destination to our campaign over the course of the next few months.

A brief word from the teams…
Mechanical and Livery Team
Completed this week
- As we had a massive week last week doing all major repairs, this week was a little slower
- We had the aircon checked for leaks, one found and but in the spirit of the rally was fixed with a large threaded bolt and some liquid nails. We showed it!
- Aircon regassed and condenser cleaned. Aircon now gets down to a chilly 3.6 degrees. Cold enough to keep the beers chilled (All the more reason to connect it to the Internet and enable it to be turned off – For a price of course)
- Focus of next week
- A few minor mechanical tweaks
- Rego ran out yesterday so need to top that up to get it through to June
- The main focus will be to create the Look & Feel for the overall car design so that we can get moving on the livery.
Design Team
Completed this week
- Key Visual – Concept development Phase 1
- Created wireframes for the website
- Created an initial design style and mood
- Designed all elements for the website
- Rough edit of the official Deepend Kick off
Focus of next week
- Key Visual – Concept development Phase 2
- Film the work we do on Wednesday night
- Evolve Website with additional content and design detail – tbd
- Work on idea for teaser video and hopefully shoot it – tbd
WebTech Team
Completed this week
- First phase of ‘The Internets’ Shitbox rally website has been released! We’ll be using this initial phase to find sponsors and get the message out. Big thanks to everybody involved in getting this done in 4 days. Go to http://www.rallythefuture.com.au/ for all the info
- We’ve started to build and plan the API that will get the website and the car talking together.
- So far we have the framework in place in a WordPress plugin to allow the API to be called, this includes a very easy and fast way to create new entry points for the calls.
- We also have the documentation being generated from the API entry points automatically to save us time later on discussing the API calls and which one does what as we can all just look at the API docs and see what’s available so far.
- We are now ready to rumble in creating any Entry Points that need to be made based on the features that will be included for interaction between the website and the car.
- We had a great brainstorm on Thursday that produce some fantastic ideas on how to get people to donate, fun we can have making the trip difficult for Matt and David and how we can help the locals along the way. Thanks to all those who helped out again
Focus of next week
- Promote the site as much as we can to get people to visit and donate
- Write up the brainstorm and start locking down functionality
- Minor refactoring of front end framework of the site to allow for greater flexibility moving forward
- Finish planning the API and see if we can get a service running end to end
IncarTech Team
Completed this week
- Put together a parts list – Torpy donated over half of the things the rest I either had or I’ve ordered.
- Started prototyping and imaged the master OS image for the PI’s – finding the performance particularly impressive.
- Met with Andrew from Locstep, lots of good info and access to his ODB emulator
- Scored some free credits and line rental from Rock 7 mobile for our satellite messaging system
- Scored a 4G dongle form Telstra thanks to Joel / Dr Joanna
- Brushed up my Python skills
- Built most of the Fleetcutter Telemetrics server instance for the car (in Amazon)
- Started organising the APIs that Benny will need to pull data from Fleetcutter
- Drew lots of diagrams
Focus of next week
- Finish prototype
- Fit second battery & splitter cable to car
- Test the ODB and see what data we can pull
- Test the bonded sim array
- Goget chameleon being fitted
- Brian from GoGet is coming to install the Fleetcutter wiring in the car next week! Watch for a guy dressed in orange carrying cables.
- He’s never “done” a Holden before and did kindly offer his time for free as it’s for charity
- I will commission a Chameleon Telemetric Unit and plug that in to the wiring Brian has installed.
- We;re not sure if he’ll be able to enable all the features on such an old banger. Fingers crossed!
- Once the telemetric server is configured, we actually can start talking to the car. It begins…
Marketing Team
Completed this week
- Hooray, the marketing team has another member; Lois will be helping to lead marketing with Dani.
- Supplied content to the website team including 4 x blog posts on Chrysalis about the journey so far.
- ‘About us’ copy for the website which includes a Q&A with Matt & Dave. Some key findings are that Matt believes Dave’s most annoying habit is his optimism, and for Dave, it’s Matt’s Jedi mind tricks on restaurant staff into changing their menu for him.
Focus of next week
- Collect content for the website and push more blog posts live
- Encourage everyone to spread the word around social channels with the hashtag #rallythefuture
Fundraising Team
Completed this week
- We have had a productive week with Sponsorship Packages finalized and rolling out on the website starting at $200 and going up all the way to $10000 (and more!) – we strongly encourage you to have a read through and think of businesses you know who are possible donators.
Focus of next week
- Locking in a venue for decking out the car with some solid back to the future inspired designs in a live art event.
- We are aiming for the Saturday the 22nd, or at the very latest for the 29th for the event.
- We will also be setting targets for fundraising every week.
- Last week we raised: $400 but with the website going up today and the sponsorship packages finalized, we want to quadruple it next week.
Team Out!
